Big game developers combine into one company

Sony and Microsoft continue to grow their gaming brand and popularity by buying out other big brands such as Bungie and Activision Blizzard.
Microsoft set to purchase Activision Blizzard for 95$ a share for a total cost of 68.7 Billion, This is set to make Microsoft the 3rd largest gaming company. With Microsoft as a Top gaming brand the industry is sure to see big changes across not only consoles and Pc’s but with the Metaverse and Mobile as well.
Sony and Microsoft are the two of the more popular gaming/tech industry brands, and with both of them expanding and combining with other companies the future of gaming is changing quickly.
According to Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, “Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms.”
Microsoft’s goal in acquiring Activision is to continue to grow the gaming industry across phones, pc’s, consoles, and now the Metaverse.
“I’ve always been an xbox fan, so i’m excited that Activision was bought by Microsoft because I think they are the right company to bring more to the future,” Said Kal Goff, a Senior.
Sony, another competitor among the gaming industry also set to acquire Bungie for 3.6 billion. Sony announced this merger only 2 days after Microsoft had announced its merger with Activision. Many games are speculated to bring back Sony x Bungie exclusives, as seen in the game Destiny before.
This is the second time that Bungie has been bought, once before in 2000 by Microsoft, and with that came Halo, an Xbox exclusive.
“Halo was one of my favorite games growing up… I am excited to see if Sony will add back Destiny 2 in game Exclusives for players as they were a cool part of Destiny,” said Will Thumann.
The Halo franchise became one of the most popular Franchises across the gaming industry and it’s still growing to this day with the release of Halo Infinite in 2021.
