The Room…

Tommy Wiseau’s cult classic disasterpiece was released in 1 theater on June 27th, 2003 in Los Angeles, California. The film was panned by critics and audiences everywhere and it is known as the worst movie of all time. So, why do so many people love it? Well that is because of one man. The writer, director, producer, financier, and star of The Room, Tommy Wiseau. Tommy is a mystery man, there is very little known about him. How old is he? Where is he from? And how did he get so much money to make The Room? The film was made by himself and his best friend Greg Sestero. All they wanted to do was become famous. Well there wish came true…kind of.

Tommy made The Room as a serious drama about a man (Wiseau) who’s fiance (Juliette Danielle) cheats on him with his best friend (Sestero). But when he was screening his film, the audience was laughing the entire time and that is not how Tommy thought it would go at all. He soon realized that his movie was a Disaster, getting horrible reviews left and right, people calling it “The Citizen Kane of bad movies” and “The Worst Movie Of All Time”. Tommy had put his heart into this movie and worked very very hard. It wasn’t until a few years later, when more people discovered his film and it became a “Cult Classic”. People loved the movie for being horrible, they thought it was so bad it was good. Now Tommy and Greg were finally getting the fame they deserved. Tommy did numerous commercials and Greg wrote a book all about the making of the film, how he met Tommy and their struggles as actors trying to make into the industry and become famous. And now that book was adapted into a major hollywood film “The Disaster Artist”, starring James Franco as Tommy Wiseau/ Johnny, and Dave Franco as Greg Sestero/ Mark, along with many more stars. The film was very successful and James Franco won best actor for The Golden Globes, Gotham Independent Film Award, Critics Choice Movie Award and many other awards. The Room has a had a large impact on bad movies and film in general. It is very inspiring to me and young directors everywhere that if you really want to make a movie, you can, no matter how bad it is. If you want to have a fun time then I recommend watching The Room, especially with a group of people. Also check out The Disaster Artist, if you want to know the story of The Room.
