The Jokers Improv troupe had their second show this year on Thursday night in the Lecture Hall. With a sell-out show, the audience cheered to every funny moment. The troupe played a series of improv games based on topics the audience suggested.

“To prepare for the improv shows, we learn the improv game, so the kids learn the rules and how to play it. Then, we talk about what part of the game creates a comedy aspect and which part is enjoyable for the audience to watch,” said Andrew Cupo, Jokers Improv director.

Improv is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters, and dialogue are all made up in the moment. Each scene was directed from the imagination of the actors onstage. The plot of each scene could range from a murder mystery in Bed Bath & Beyond all the way to figuring out how to remove a vicious lion from a bathroom.

“Improv is different from live theatre because you don’t have a lot to go off of so you have to listen to what the other actors are saying on stage to be able to establish a scene. To be in improv you have to have the skill of being able to quickly change the direct of a scene while spontaneously thinking of funny dialogue,” said Tommy Roberts, a member of the Jokers Improv troupe.

The troupe will perform again in February.
