Wildfires blaze through California

California is currently going through a series of dangerous fires. The fires in California have occurred over the last few years and keep on getting worse.
Many fires that have occurred recently in California could have been prevented. On
September 7, a smoke bomb at a gender reveal party sparked the El Dorado Fire wildfire which has burned over 8,600 acres.
“I understand that the majority of fires are naturally caused and can not be prevented, however fires that are caused by humans are unacceptable,” said Braden Peters, a sophomore who has family members near the fires.
On September 18, a firefighter fighting the El Dorado Fire was killed. Officials are still searching for missing people. There have been at least 20 fatalities so far from the fires all together, and the death toll is expected to rise.
“I am hoping that the firefighters that are tackling the fires can put them out soon because thousands of people will be in danger if the fires continue to spread,” said Aiden McCulloch, a sophomore.
The fires are causing families to leave their homes because the fire is getting too close to them.
“I am scared for my family who still lives in California because I do not know how much they will be impacted by the fires,” said Peters.
California is not the only state that is being affected by the fires. Oregon and Colorado both have huge fires.
Smoke from the fires has travelled to other states, including Arizona. Air pollution is a major concern for many.
“A lot of wildfires usually spread a ton of ash which can definitely affect people’s asthma and with the smog already in California as well, it compounds the issue,” said Hoveeg Boyadijin, a teacher.
It has covered states near the west coast which is causing the sky to turn orange in some states. Northern California and Oregon have seen orange skies for the past week.
