Elon Musk wants to put chips in people’s heads in the near future. This technology could allow humans to do much more with their brain than ever thought possible.
“Chips have been around for a lot longer than people realize and they will eventually become normal in all facets of society,” said Matthew Scott, the technology teacher at Cactus Shadows.
Chips are not new to the technology scene, with the NFC Chip people can open their doors simply by waving their hand over the door. However, Elon Musk’s idea of a worldwide chip could be seen as one of his boldest ideas yet. Elon claims that within 10 years, the majority of society will have chips in their head.
“I would want a chip because I have heard that in the future it could stream music straight to your brain,” said Dylan Lies, a junior.
There are endless possibilities for this chip and the future of this type of technology. On the Joe Rogan podcast, Elon musk hypothesized that the chip could allow you to stream music directly into your brain and could help with hormone levels which could help with stress relief and anxiety.“I feel like there’s a huge possibility for the government or Elon Musk to track your movement or other things and I would definitely not feel comfortable with the government to be inside my brain,” said Emme Toso, a sophomore
The chip could be a breach of privacy and could be very intrusive, according to Andrew Maynard of OneZero a tech and science news source. With this technology there could be some worries ranging from the government looking inside the brain all the way to the procedure itself being dangerous.
“Privacy will be a thing of the past once chips are fully implemented into society,” said Scott. “Technology is great but only until the bad outweighs the good.”
Musk is no stranger to controversial technology. He has always been at the forefront of technological advancement, for example he is attempting to become the first person to profit off of space tourism. Elon, also is attempting to perfect the self-driving car. But his company called neuralink is the one that would be the one to help chip technology really take off.
