Online shopping rises in popularity as many clothing stores close
Many stores, such as Brandy Melville have temporarily stopped all orders because of the unprecedented and very high online demand.
As COVID-19 spread, many people all around resorted to online purchases to hopefully stop the spread of the so called aggressive illness. That being said, some online sales have skyrocketed in the last month.
Online shopping is the new way of shopping in stores. Many people use online stores not just for COVID-19 but also for the convenience of it all. According to CNBC, a website that keeps tabs on the economy and business, online sales are now the fourth largest sector overall as of February. With that being said, Amazon has had a huge role in that. For teenagers, the biggest online stores are Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters, Depop, and more.
“I personally enjoy online shopping just because it’s easy and I don’t have to leave my house. The only problem is that you have to wait longer but it’s a lot easier,” said Kiley Porcello, a junior.
However, any shops are expecting delays in shipping. According to Digital Commerce, a website that keeps track of commerce percentages, online sales have risen by 25% just since the beginning of March. While many shops will not be shipping new orders for a while, it’s best to make sure to double check. Many warehouses are currently overloaded, which can mean orders take much longer than normal.
“I love online shopping but since COVID-19, everything has been taking about a week longer. From Urban Outfitters they won’t even ship until the end of May, almost June,” said Luella Cavolo, a freshman.
Online shops have ensured that they will take as many measures as they can to deliver your items safely. However, taking extra measures such as washing the clothes before wearing them or wiping down the packages can help to prevent any chance of getting the illness.
“I order a lot on depop so you never really know where things are coming from. I always wear gloves and put the clothes in the washer right away. You can never be too safe,” said Cavolo.
Staying safe can be an important aspect to ordering clothes online.
