Upcoming College Visits: The following colleges will be on campus in the

Picture Day is Thursday, August 30th. Orders can be placed online by
visiting Order forms are also available in the front office.

Auditions are being held today for the position of our school mascot, Floyd
the Falcon! If you’re interested, please see Mrs. Johnson in the athletics office to
pick up a flier and sign up. Tryouts will be in the Lecture Hall from 2:15 to 3:15 pm
and will consist of a brief interview along with a 1 to 3 minute skit or cheer.
Please come prepared with your skit or cheer ready to go!

Join the Superintendent’s Student Cadre! Superintendent, Dr. Debbi
Burdick, is inviting students from Cactus Shadows High School to meet with her
once a month to discuss critical issues at the high school, the district and in the
community. The meetings will be in dialogue format for active discussion. Topics
will be brought forward by students or Dr. Burdick. For more information visit

Are you participating in the Superintendent’s Challenge? Earn 50 hours or
more per year in Community Service (200 hours total 4 years) by your senior year
and receive a Superintendent’s Challenge honor cord and certificate. Falcons can
earn a Varsity letter for completing 200 hours of community service in one school
year. Hours started accruing for the Varsity letter June 1st until the deadline. For

Teachers and staff, the District Office Kitchen is now open for lunch. The
hours are 11:00am -1:00pm. Menus will be in your mailboxes each month.

Club News

Are you interested in history or like writing? Veterans Heritage Project’s
second meeting is today after school in room 311. VHP is a special way to honor
those who have sacrificed so much for our country and freedom. For more
information contact Mr. Lineburg or Ms. Gum or join us in room 311 after school

FCA – Fellowship of Christian Athletes – will be holding bible study on
Tuesdays during lunch in Ms. Nasr’s room (room 153). Feel free to join us if you
are interested.

Do you enjoy Science? Do you like competition, working with drones, being
outside and going on field trips? Then the Science Club is for you! Please stop by
our table at lunchtime today to learn about club membership. Meetings are on
Wednesdays at lunch in room 801 (Ms. Anderson’s room). Hope to see you there
for a great year!

Interested in fashion? Come see Ms. Russell in room 307 this Thursday at
lunch for our first Fashion Club meeting.

Robotics club will meet today after school until 4:00 pm in room 1004. If
you’re interested, come see what Robotics club is all about.

Attention all returning DECA members and students interested in joining
DECA. Our first meeting of the year will be today in Room 610 at lunch. Pizza will
be served. Questions? See Mrs. Rochford in Room 610.

The Equestrian Club will be meeting on Friday, Aug 24th

, at lunch in the
Library Conference Room. This date and location has been changed, so please
update your calendars. We look forward to meeting our new members.

Literary Magazine invites interested students to our first meeting today
after school in room 609. Come find out about how we make an award-winning
magazine. Plus there will be donuts!

Drama club will meet Thursday at lunch in Mr. Cupo’s room (rm 144).
Come and join us to get more information about joining and to have a great time.

Model UN will meet today at lunch in Mr. Mitten’s room. If you’re
interested in joining, come and see what Model United Nations is all about.

Sports News
All freshman football players will be dismissed from class at 1:30 for their
away game at Gilbert. Report to the fieldhouse immediately.

In baseball news, if you are interested in participating in fall and winter
baseball, please attend the parent/player meeting tonight at 6:00p.m. in the
lecture hall. Schedules and expectations will be discussed. If you are currently
participating in a fall sport sport, you do not need to attend the meeting. If you

cannot attend the meeting and want information, please see Mr. Gianni in room
